GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  • celebrating

    local flavor and culinary innovation

  • supporting

sustainable fishing practices and the region's commercial fishing industry

  • embodying

    the Midwestern spirit of hospitality

The Great Lakes must be treated with great care to be enjoyed for generations to come. Learning from and working with partners and experts — from Fishtown Preservation Society, MI Sea Grant and statewide research institutions to local tribes and family-owned fisheries — it takes a village to coordinate responsible actions and future-minded solutions to continue utilizing the natural resources available to us as stewards of our waters.

We are a part of the collective, and we’ll look for opportunities to engage in the ongoing dialogue and work that this requires.

JOINING THE PLEDGE

Great Lakes Tinned Fish is proud to be a member of the 100% Fish Pledge. As part of the pledge, we're committed to raising awareness in the fish supply chain about opportunities for innovative applications for fish byproducts, including compost, fertilizer, protein, marine collagen, leather, or other new, high-value products. We'll work closely with our suppliers to advance this initiative.

A pledge to innovation

Founder, Marissa Fellows, received the 2025 Young Innovator Award from the Michigan State University Product Center at this year’s Making It In Michigan Conference on May 7, 2025. Watch the video testimonial below for more of our story.

A note from Marissa, founder of Great Lakes Tinned Fish

Thanks so much for being here and embarking on this journey with me. We may share a passion for the Great Lakes, hosting a good dinner party, or tinned fish – hopefully all of the above! – and finding kindred spirits makes all the effort worthwhile. Whether you’re new to tinned fish (a “seacuterie meet cute” as I like to say) or a seasoned afishionado, you’re welcome at my table. I hope you’ll feel all the warmth of Midwestern hospitality, at every interaction. Welcome to the Great Lakes party. Pull up a seat and grab a plate.
